January 28, 2017

There was a bright light - shining in my window all night. Luckily my eye mask took care of that. The bed was comfy but the a/c was blowing on me. Don't take this as complaining as I could have been sweating but I was cold.

I awakened to a bright sunny day, I didn't get up early or sleep to late...just enough. Peter went for coffee while Naitro and I had some yogurt. I added some of my $10 strawberries and $7 blueberries. Food is $$$$$ here. The small container of granola and fruits $8 was sprinkled on top. The locally made Belizean yogurt was very tasty. I had peach, today.

Ceni stopped by with a pillow and sheet for Naitro as I had messaged the request. She said that her son would stop by and see us. I asked if we could know when as we planned to be out and about, she didn't know. She was off to the airport and flying to Houston.

We lounged a bit and really didn't have a firm plan but finally headed out around 11:30am. San Pedro was small and we didn't need to rush as we would easily see all in an afternoon,

Heading north on the beach and into the town center, we wanted to start with the open air art market. They had carved wooden items, animals, bowls, and crosses - also many table runners, bags, and small tourist items, it was mostly very repetitious but Naitro found a cross that was a possibility,

From here we walked to the front road and headed north to an area not visited the previous day. We were looking for tour booking shops, art galleries, and general souvenirs. We stopped in a few shops with t-shirts and caps but nothing stood out.

Seeing a courtyard with signage about the businesses inside, I took a peek and sure enough, the main gallery of interest to me was here. The courtyard was tall and covered by a palm frond roof and timber beams. One wall was filled with anchors of differing sizes.

The Belizean Art Gallery is a shoo showcasing works of Belizean artists in all mediums. They are not mass produced and can only be found here. I was in heaven. There were so many things that I liked, I found painting from two of the artists I was looking for. There were indigenous people made from ceramic...too big to bring back and no photos allowed. I did by a metal articulating fish, and a cross made from woven leather. All so very unique.

We walked a bit more but as we were getting hungry we headed back. Deciding to get a bottle of wine, we walked to store near the cottage and then some chicken, to go, for Peter.

Back at the cottage,Naitro and I had omelets.

After lunch, we suited up and set out to find a nice beach. The goal was Boca del Rio but after walking for more than an hour and being increasingly disappointed, we gave up and returned to swim behind the cottage, Arriving, there were guys smoking weed and hanging out on our beach so we just decided to hang out in our patio.

Gary finally showed up and brought another beach towel, a sheet, and shared some info on the tours. We had already talked to two agencies and had made reservations for Blue Hole on Monday and Lamanai on Tuesday but we would speak to his cousin and see if her deal was better for lamanai. Peter and I had a glass of wine. We had two bottles, one Australian and one from Chile. I preferred the Australian and Peter, the Chilean. Naitro did a taste test and preferred the Chilean also.

The sub had set and we decided have dinner a short walk away at Blue Water Grill, on the water. The dining room is open and allows open breezes to pass through. It was quite popular as we took the last available table.

Peter tried to wines that were not good, at all. He decided on a local beer, Belikan.

I had a pizza with goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes, peppers, and mushrooms. For desert, I had a flourless chocolate cake (by the chocolate shop) with vanilla ice cream - amazing!

We retired to our cottage after and i settled in with some a/c and a comfy pillow.

What would tomorrow bring? We're ready for some more,
