Sept 30, 2018

I stayed up way to late (1:30 am) when I only wanted to not fall sleepy early, I did sleep when I gave him but then was awake often on between 3 and 8 AM refuse to give in and just give up.

Rained on and off. The room was kind of warm so I left the door open for a cool breeze for a cool breeze.

My hunger finally got me out of bed. I have a shower and went to breakfast just in time before the cut off. I had some yoghurt, pain de chocolate, and some juice with a couple of apples.

My bag is already packed so I was ready to check out, right after breakfast. It was nice that the parking lot so close. It was almost empty, just a few cars. I did a once around my Ford Eco-sport and it was free of damage…!

I exited the town through the myriad of roundabouts. I think viewed from above the town would just look like a bunch of circles.

And one round about the same today traffic and people were moving. I picked up my phone and zoomed in and… I was at the border. My heart started racing as this keeping the moment. It took about 20 minutes for me to be at the front of the line of cars. When I was up, they let me move through, slowly, but watching me. I thought I had made it but then there was another stop 😳. An officer was feeling one car at a time and mine was coming quickly. Two cars ahead of me he had the driver pull to the side and then also the car in front of me. He seem to be paying no attention to me. I slowly move forward and continue to focus on the other two cars and I slowly move past him to last guard station to enter Spain. He waved me on.

I had made it into Spain. Whoohoo! I was very excited and my heart rate is for this reason now. I still had 2 1/2 hours driving back to Barcelona and to the airport. I could still be pulled over at any moment and the nightmare could begin.

I observe the speed limit and this route seem to be going much faster than the previous day. The roads were much better and fewer turns so I was able to make good time.

The scenery in this world was even more dramatic than the previous day. Much of the way was spent in balance in the tween set of climbing the mountains. Rushing rivers to one side or the color of turquoise.

Finally out of the mountains, I reached the main highway. It’s four lanes and 120 KPH. Whoohoo! I adhered to the speed limit as I certainly did not want to attract attention. It’s actually quite hard for me to do the speed limit… But I did.

I had four stops along the journey to pay tolls. This continued to be in anxiety ridden experience has only two of them had attendance the other two were automated. I tried to make sure I have enough change and somehow I did. Today’s total was over €30...great roads but wow.

I was near to the airport finally stopped for gas. That was another well for about 6 1/2 gallons I paid the equivalent of $47.

Finally at the airport at it take me to tries to find the entrance to rental car return and then it seemed that all of the rows traffic direction was supposed to what I needed. I just decided to go the wrong way and as I cannot find a place to park the car, I parked right in front of the office. The guy asked me how my trip was and if the car was in good condition. I told him the trip was fine except for this malfunctioning GPS system. Fortunately I had taken pictures of my travel to the mountains and the GPS showing me to be in the Mediterranean Sea. He excepted my photos as proof but then also sent it. Then travel reported previously. His comment was that it’s a mechanical device and can fail. I said that I understand that but it was his company‘s responsibility in renting me a car with a device that it should be working. I expect a refund. He said he would email the supervisor and share my story with him. He expected that I would receive a refund.

Haven’t given directions to take the metro to my Airbnb for the night. It was quite easy pasty centric metro stop was only for away from the airport. At €4.50, That’s much cheaper than a taxi which had a starting price of €20.

My host could not speak any English so that was a good of a misunderstanding regarding her location in the building but it was quickly resolved. Her son could speak English pretty well and I settled in. I was quite tired, the stress, and even though hungry I just sat on the bed and wrote about the day.
